TPC Update: Another Buzzy Spring!
Spring is always an exciting time at The Philanthropy Connection as the countdown begins to our Annual Meeting & Grant Awards Announcement. Which organizations will become our next grantees? Our members will be making final decisions over the next few weeks. And speaking of membership – it’s open! We’re now accepting new members for the 2017-18 giving year. Read on to learn why it’s going to be a Milestone Year for TPC, and how you can be part of it.

Women who join between now and December 31, 2017 will be able to enjoy all of the Benefits of Membership, including: joining a grant review team to evaluate next year’s proposals, attending education events, and voting for next year’s grantees.
And here’s the most exciting part – next June 2018, TPC will hit a Big Milestone: We’ll surpass the $1 million mark in the amount of money TPC has awarded as grants to Boston-area organizations. Our 17 grant review teams are coming down the homestretch, just about finished with the proposal evaluation work they began last January. Since then, teams determined which of the 171 organizations that submitted a Letter of Intent application advanced to the Full Proposal stage, and which of these remaining organizations moved on to receive a Site Visit. Thank you, TPC members, for using your big brains and warm hearts to do this important work. And thank you to all of the organizations that participated in this process.
On May 15, TPC members will receive a ballot (via email) and vote for next year’s 10 grantees, who will be announced at our June 1 meeting.
TPC makes a splash in Florida

What’s better than giving, receiving, and learning with women from Boston, Cambridge, Newton, Newburyport, and other Boston-area suburbs? Giving, receiving, and learning with women from Florida, Washington, Pennsylvania, Nevada, New York, and 40+ states across the country. Last month, six TPC members traveled to Jacksonville for the Women’s Collective Grantmaking Network conference, where they shared best practices, forged new connections, and (full disclosure), yes, drank a bit of wine with new friends.
Hundreds of conference participants attended panels on how to recruit and retain members, governance, grantmaking, and communications. TPC co-founder Marla Felcher shared what she’s learned on a Managing Rapid Growth panel (TPC grew from 0 to 287 members in four years), Savannah Kelleher presented on Advocacy Fundamentals, and Jesse Hatfield participated in a panel on Young Philanthropist Fellowship programs. Two current TPC Fellows, Jeanette Andre and Bridget Dunn, attended more sessions than we could keep track of, and took copious notes, so they were able to share what they learned with TPC’s Board.
TPC president Susan Benford, our Conference Networking Queen, will be a presenter in WCGN’s May webinar, Best Takeaways From the 2017 Conference: What You Missed, or What You’ll Want to Hear Again.
